I need some sort of wireless connection with a range of about 5m so that I can connect two Arduino devices together. What is the best type (of technology) to use that has this range, uses a low amount of battery and is cheap to buy. (I'm know I'm asking quite a lot here (: ).

433MHz or 2.4GHz.
Do you want to send and receive both ways, then I would use one of those small 2.4GHz boards.
I don't know if some of them can be placed in sleep mode.
