I feel a bit silly having to ask, but I’ve spent quite some time: I am looking for basic momentary push buttons for my finished projects, to be mounted through an enclosure’s top panel... so exactly this:
... but, with a « clicking » feedback that you feel in your finger when the circuit is closed (like all the small black SMD switches that come in arduino starter kits).
This sounds simple but I don’t know if there is a term for this, and lots of googling didn’t turn up anything: any specific eBay link or good search term would be appreciated... thanks!
Franck
Add the word "tactile" to your search terms. I found several when looking at returned images.

Hmmm, for me that doesn’t yield anything that can easily mounted through an enclosure’s panel, they all require some kind of internal mounting fixture.
I know it can be done, but for simplicity I’d rather affix the button directly to the panel...
Thanks!
Hello Franck,
Just perform a search on eBay for tactile buttons. This should provide you with a large assortment to choose from.
With regards,
Mike
Try DigiKey. You can find just about any type button you can think of. I was just looking at oled buttons last night. Yep, you can have a picture on the buttonface.
Hi,
Try google tactile panel mount button
Tom..
Thanks everyone, "tactile" definitely seems to be the keyword for a momentary button that gives a physical clicking feedback when depressed.
I still can't find any that would be easy to mount in an enclosure panel hole without some kind of support inside the enclosure, but I guess that thing just isn't available for some reason...
If this isn't clear here is an example of a project where I would like to replace the buttons by tactile ones: having to support 3 buttons from inside the enclosure would require quite a bit of construction...

Hello again Franck,
If I were in your place and had to do this project I would just glue the buttons in place. Do a search for Loctite glue, they have several different kinds of glue all with a specific number, and unfortunately I don't know the number you need from the top of my head.
Or if there is enough room consider using a glue gun, this has the advantage that if you use the right glue and a button should get faulty you can cut the glue away and replace the button. I know how it sometimes sucks to work in tight spaces.
With regards,
Mike
dougp:
Like this?
Those indeed have flanges for a panel mount, but I don't see anything in the spec saying that they will "click" when depressed?
Franck
It seems that "snap action" is a good search term too, the buttons below are ugly but they definitely fit the requirements:
