I salvaged this display out of something (I don't even remember what now). But I can't find any information on it. It has 12 pins and no identifying marks that I can discern. I was wondering if anyone recognizes it and/or if anyone knows of any methods of identifying the pins.
I've been randomly touching the pins to power but I'm just getting gibberish so far. I think it was some kind of clock because at one point I could read "P.M." Can this thing display words or only numbers or what? What are its capabilities? Pinout?
Typically displays like that are only capable of showing things like the 4 digit time as well as a few other indicators like am/pm, alarm, ect
What sort of voltage are you trying to drive this thing with.
You can sometimes look at most displays at a certain angle and see all of the different characters/symbols they are able to display. Especially those of the proprietary nature as this one is.
I've tried 3.3v and 5v just to see what would happen. I guess that's kind of a bummer if this thing only shows numbers. Makes for good practice though - I ordered an assortment of lcd displays from electronic goldmine. I hope to end up with a display that can show numbers and letters and possibly one of the negative contrast ones.
Anyway, so how can I go about figuring out the pins? Brute force is fine with me; I'm having trouble wording this next part and I figure this would apply to any unidentified display - If I just randomly touch wires to pins; How do I know which pin I'm on by whats on the screen (or is that even how I'd go about it)?
