I have multiple wires running down a cable to a port. I need a way to find what colour wire is what in the port. Is there any way to do that with an arduino
Hello there!
Yes this can be done with an Arduino, but there is a word for that: "overkill". If what you want to find is which wire is which connection, then all you need is a multimeter with a continuity check feature (assuming the cable is unplugged during testing). Connect one probe of the multimeter on one of the connections, and touch the other end of each of the wires until the multimeter shows a short circuit (some also beep). Once you identify all of the wires, create some sort of labeling system so that you'll always know which is which.
That is great if a multimeter is available and if the two ends of the cable are close together, say about 3 feet or 1 meter.
Really, the OP should tell us more about the conditions and what test equipment is available.
Different methods might be used if the ends are far apart, or if LEDs or an oscilloscope are available.
A port? Like a sea-port? On the ocean?
Maybe a picture would help. See the image guide for instructions on uploading and inserting an image inline.
