I have been struggling to get my arduino mega working with android using firmata for some time now. Even using the sample firmata app from here ArduinoFirmata on Android
Everytime i try and move a servo the app fails and closes, then re opens the app and crashes.
If anyone has some good experience with android and firmata and you can spare some time to help, please email me ( arcanetaeogaming@live.co.uk ). I have a pretty big robotics project that cannot start without getting this communication working.
As an addition, i wrote a quick servo sweep sketch to see if it was the arduino or my servo's causing the problem. After then connecting it to the same tablet so it got the same power supply as i intend to use there was no issues. sweep worked ok.
Would adding an ADDITONAL power supply to the arduino be a good / safe idea?

Do not power the servo or any other actuator off the arduino power lines however to some extent its fine to pwer from VIN but still I won't recommend this, power it off a n external power supply.
I'm used to communicate with Android with my own apps using Bluetooth,WiFi, Serial link(for cynogenmods and other androids which have serial api support) and IOIO, what do you actually want to achieve? I will help you maybe money would be needed.
