Need Help with Bluetooth and Nokia 5110 LCD Display

Hello, I am a real noob to arduino, and I need some help with my project. I am working on making a smartwatch, and I ordered a display for it. It was a Nokia 5110 display, and I can display graphics and text. But what I want to do is be able to send an ASCII string via a Bluetooth Terminal, and have the display show that text. This is the code, I have pieced together what I could from various other sketches, but I have hit a road block. Others have done this, they just haven’t published their code and don’t speak English. Bellow is my code:

#define PIN_SCE   7
#define PIN_RESET 6
#define PIN_DC    5
#define PIN_SDIN  4
#define PIN_SCLK  3

#define LCD_C     LOW
#define LCD_D     HIGH

#define LCD_X     84
#define LCD_Y     48

int ledPin = 13;
int state = 0;
int flag = 0;

static const byte ASCII[][5] =

I get an error saying that it “cannot convert ‘String’ to ‘char*’ for argument ‘1’ to ‘void LcdString(char*)’” Can anyone help me? Thanks! :slight_smile:

String is a class and not an array of character

replace

 LcdString(myText);

by

 LcdString(myText.c_str());

(compiler might complain about passing a constant char * while you do some pointer operation in LcdString() )

more on this here

JML, the compiler did give an error about the constant character, “invalid conversion from ‘const char*’ to ‘char*’ [-fpermissive]” what do you suggest I do? I am very new to C++ as I said.

You did not read the link nor explored. :smiling_imp: ... You need to learn...

char * cstr = (char*) malloc(myText.length()+1); //+1 to accommodate the null char at the end
strcpy (cstr, myText.c_str());   // cstr now contains a c-string copy of str and ends with null char
LcdString(cstr);
free(cstr);

I did read the link, and I googled the error I got... it's just, when it comes to programming languages other than batch and most of java, I'm somewhat illiterate... I'm hoping that arduino programming will help with that. By the way, the comments in the code you posted were really helpful, I think I understand both what the problem was, and how the solution works. Thanks for your patience.
