Need Help With Learning

Hello, I am just getting into these boards, and need some help.
I do not fully understand programming a Arduino Uno, do you just plug the micro usb in and upload my code with the arduino program?
Also, what do you recommend I do first as a beginner and what should I use to learn the code?
