I am brand new to Arduino and using the starter kit book to work on project 01. Everything was going fine until I had to program the LED in parallel and when doing so, only 1 button turns on the LED (the top button in the picture) while the 2nd button does not. I can't figure out what is wrong, any help would appreciated.

Probably a loose contact. What happens if you bridge the button with a wire?
Button may need a push to slide into the board and make contact...
Rotate the mounting of the button by 1/4 of a turn.
Use a multimeter verifying things.
Can't!
"Tact" buttons don't work that way.
Important advice: Purchase a $5 (or more) multimeter prior to or at the same time as purchase of an Arduino kit.
