Need Some help planning out an arduino variant

Hey guys,

I am currently building a project that requires the use of the basic parts of the arduino and am kind of lost as to where i should start. I am looking to integrate the arduino components onto my board that i will be etching so my question is, what do i need to build the basics of the arduino to put on my board, i will be programming the chip on my diecimila so i do not need any connections for programming. I am using power (obviously) and pins 2,8,7,12,11,9,and 10 if that helps at all. if anybody could help me with this and maybe provide some drawings for me that would be greatly appreciated.

You need a crystal (16mhz), two 22pF capacitors for the crystal, a reset button, a pullup resistor for the button (10K) and a 0.1uF capacitor for decoupling. :)

Its pretty simple to make. Here is the NG's schematic: http://www.arduino.cc/en/uploads/Main/arduino_NG_schematic.png

You werent wanting USB were you? That makes it trickier.

I think that's a good place to start from http://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/StandaloneAssembly Removing serial and power parts is clear.

I wasnt looking for USB, i was thinking i could program the chip seperately, is that possible?

Actually, if youre happy to program the chip in the arduino (or variant) and just want a carrier board of sorts the actual implementation of the arduino can be very stripped down. In my class, I showed my students how to wire this up on a perfboard but you can find the class's notes here:

I was going to follow this up with a proper tut in the playground but didnt have the time. I think itll give you an idea of whats involved.

Cheers, B

that is exactly what i have been looking for actually. all of those drawings just had too much that i didn't need. that should work perfectly. thank you
