Need to trigger code to run from door opening

I am new to Arduino and still learning about it's capabilities. I would like trigger code to run (it will run/display a timer and possibly some images) when I open the door. For example if I wake up and open the door to my bedroom I want a monitor to turn on and start running the code in the next room. My wifi is not great so bluetooth may be the best option.

I have looked up and found https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/ArduinoBoard101 as that's been linked to a few things talking about blue tooth but I'm really not sure what type of model or pieces I need for this or even where to start.

Any ideas or suggestions to narrow down my search will be appreciated. I do not have any arduino stuff yet since I want to only purchase the things I need for this project, if it's even possible.

Of course it's possible. I suggest you start with an arduino and figure out how to tell it you just opened your bedroom door. Then when that works, go to a next step.
