NEO6 GPS MODULE

wildbill:
Since the OP says that he got his device working after thirty minutes, I expect that it was doing a cold start and that as an older model, it may not be especially efficient at doing that. A poor antenna would likely make things worse.

The key symptom was it took a very long time to get the first satellite.

Even from cold a GPS with a good antenna should get the first satellite within a few seconds.

GPSs started from cold, with good antennas will normally get a fix in under one minute, at least the ones I have do.

Interesting. The newest GPS module I have (EM406-A) is now retired by Adafruit so I may have out of date expectations as I'm fairly sure it wasn't ever that fast. Hmm, that replacement model is looking mighty nice

I found another bigger antenna for the GPS module.
I will test it as soon as i find time and i will report here.
Also i will test with NEO7 module to see what happens.
Thank you for your interest.

I tried [this NEO7 GPS Module](http://Ublox NEO-7M-000 GPS Module MWC APM2.6 Replace NEO-6M GYGPSV3-NEO7M) and in a few seconds locked to satelites.
As you can see it has a more bigger antenna than the NEO6.
Also i tried it inside my house and it took one minute to lock to satelites.
I tried it with the smaller antena and it worked fine too althought it took about 2 minutes to lock.
Now i will try the 2 modules with a bigger external antenna which i don't have yet.
But i think that the NEO6 module is much wicker then the NEO7.
Also the NEO7 module has a green led on it that it blinking when satelites locked.

I attach photos of the two antennas.
The bigger one is from NEO7 and the smaller one is from NEO6
