Neopixel Ring issue

Hey,
while testing my 16x Neopixel Ring (with the adafruit example sketch: "simple"),
I noticed that only 12 of the 16 pixels light up.
Im using the 5V from my arduino to power the ring (no external power supply).
The LEDs get quite hot while usage (but I guess thats normal).
Thanks for your help!

If you use 16 pixels that is just under an Amp. That is way too much to power just from the USB connection. No wonder they don’t work so well.

Ok thanks
Yes I thought this too but after looking it up I found out,
that one Pixel draws only 16mA.
In this video (Using an 24 Bit RGB Neopixel LCD Ring with Arduino - YouTube) it works with a
way bigger pixel ring.

but after looking it up I found out, that one Pixel draws only 16mA.

No, can you post a link to that misinformation?
Each colour in each LED can draw up to 20mA and there are three colours per LED.

Crap video by the way, explains absolutely nothing.

Ok thanks,
I got a bit confused when I saw this video.
NeoPixel Ring - 16 x 5050 RGB LED with Integrated Drivers : ID 1463 : $9.95 : Adafruit Industries, Unique & fun DIY electronics and kits its around 18mA constant current drive
So should I use a 5V power supply?

So should I use a 5V power supply?

Yes and a resistor in the data line and a capacitor as close to the strip as you can get like it says here:-

With only a few LEDs like in the ring that capacitor can be 47uF.

Ok thanks
can I use a 100uF one instead?

Yes sure.

It did not work.
I ordered a new one.
Anyway thanks for your support
