New member, can not get online or desktop working

I have just purchased an UNO Rev 3 board. I have done some AVR programming in the past
so I was hoping this would work out for a couple of projects I have. I have a couple of problems
getting going I hope that I can get some help with.

  1. The online Editor seems to be broken. There have been others on the forum talking about this.
However it seems to down for a long time, any idea when it might be coming back?

  2. With the desktop I can compile the Blink code but when I try to upload it I get this error,
"Board at Com 1 not available" Tutorials say to go to "Tools" however there is no Tools menu.

I am running a Mac and the IDE is Arduino 1.8.5

I have a Windows machine but the monitor is crap and I have a great new monitor for my Mac and would
prefer not to go over to the window machine if at all possible.

Thanks for any help.

Bob

I also noticed quite a few posts about the Arduino Web Editor having problems a few days ago but have not seen any recently so I assumed it had been fixed. You might check the comments on recent posts in the Create > Editor forum section:

Usually an Arduino employee will comment on those posts after the problem is resolved. If there is no news then you can subscribe to the threads to get an email when there is a response.

You definitely need to select your boards port from the Tools > Port menu. I assure you this menu does exist, you just need to know where to look for it. I don't use macOS so I can't say where it is.
