Unfortunately, the DCD, RI, DSR, and CTS pins need to be broken out, so neither this nor the FTDI cable sold by them work for this particular method, however, if you made your own board and soldered it yourself, I would potentially work, you could even bring it out to a standard ICSP header and everything.
