new sketch over iPod serial

Hello forum.

I successfully have an arduino communicate with an iPod touch over the arduino's hardware serial port.

Is there any way to use the iPod touch to update the arduino sketch on the arduino?

When using a computer to burn a sketch on to the arudino the usb to serial is used. So it must be possible to directly send a new hex file of the serial pins.

something similar is discussed here (xbee) http://ladyada.net/make/xbee/arduino.html and here (sd card) http://www.arduino.cc/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1260909294/0#0

i now i will either find the right timing between pressing the reset button and sending the new hex file.

so, can anyone point me in the right direction ?

thanks, stephan.

The first thing that you will need is a new hex file to send to the Arduino. Where will that come from?

Hi.

When updating my app over cydia (jailbroken ipod) i can include a hex file in its data folder. so that should not be the problem.

but i have no clue how to get the arduino to take the new hex file. does it even need to be a hex file? couldn't it be just a long string of serial commands send from my app to the arduino over serial ?

thanks for any advice. stephan.

Can't tell you the answer you're looking for. But you could have a look at how avrdude does it. http://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/avrdude

i wonder if i could intercept the serial messages send from avrdude to an arduino and than make a file that contains all the data. i could then send that data over serial pins to an other arduino.

well i will keep on looking around.

thanks, stephan.
