New to all this, need help with a seven segment run from rotary switch

Let me start with what i'm looking to do. I would like to make a way to run a number display from a rotary switch on my truck.
On my truck i have a tuner that changes the PCM of the engine to change form towing to daily driven, i have 6 positions. what i would like to do is put a double poll 6 position switch, where the one side will run the tuner and the other will run the display for 1-6. how hard will this be to do and what will i need. im good a wiring but know noting about code.
thanks Matt

"In the olde days this would have been done using diodes. You connect a diode from each contact on your rotary switch to the required segments on the display. To limit current, you tie together the segment ends of the diodes and insert a resistor from that point to the display."

No micro required (unless you really want to)

i was all so looking at that option but thought i might just see if there was a better way.
i will have to see if i can find the best wiring schematic
thanks Matt
