New to Arduino, Any advice?

Okay so I am starting to learn electronics and programming, and I was thinking of getting an Arduino Uno R3.
Anyways I already have a breadboard for playing with solder-less projects that came in this pack

Could I use this pack with the arduino to make LEDs flash or anything, nothing too major just to learn basic programming and electronics.

Many Thanks

Yes you can. Looks like a nice collection of parts.

Yeah it is, just uses a 9v battery for power
So what do I get some jumper pins or make some out of the wires in the kit I have?

Thanks

Depends on the type of wire that you have. The description just says hookup wire. Use solid wire (not stranded) with a maximum size of 22 gauge(0.6mm). Larger wire can stretch the contacts and make them unreliable for smaller wires. Or get some jumpers with the 'Dupont' connectors. Male-male for breadboard to Arduino, male-female to connect modules with male headers to Arduino or breadboard.

Often people take solid core wire and poke it into the holes in the breadboard.

You can also buy some jumpers

male to male for breadboard, male-female for breadboard to the male pin header found on many sensors and accessories (pin header on boards is usually male - male header female connector gives much more satisfying connection than male connector, female header).

That kit is lacking in sensors, it looks like.

You like blinkenlights? WS2811b leds can be chained into big long strings, but still individually controlled with just one wire (for the whole string).

Cheap LCD screens (everyone's first screen :stuck_out_tongue: )

That's a good start

Now just click the learning tab at the top of this page.
Or Google "arduino tutorial" and you will find lots of things to do. With that stuff.

Have fun!!

Can I still use the wires for a few days until I get some of them dupont wires? I want the arduino mostly for the programming part.

Sure,if they fit. If they are stranded wires, look out for stray strands when you plug them in. Stray strands can cause shorts.

do you know what a stranded wire is ?
I will often cut the long leads of resistors to plug then in, then use that cut off piece as a small jumper. it is not insulated, so caution is advised.

but even if they are stranded, you should be able to get them to work for a weeks or so.

you could solder them to the excess lengths of the resistor cuttings.

as for the purchase of jumper wires, I would suggest you put a pack with different lengths on the wish-list.
some male to female could suffice for longer needs
and some female to female
