New To Arduino, COM1 Not Available

Hello all, I am new to Arduino. I followed the installation instructions and my drivers are updated. I am using Windows 7.

I am having trouble opening the "Serial Monitor" under Tools as well as just uploading to Arduino. I am getting an error message saying that COM1 is not available. I'm not entirely sure what that even means. When checking Ports in Device Manager I see Arduino Uno (COM5) listed...not sure if that's relevant.

Well the problem seems to have been fixed by changing the programmer to Arduino as ISP. Still not sure how any of this works...but I can at least upload now.

right click the com in devices and go to properties, port settings, advanced and change the port to com1
