Newb Schematic Questions

Hello,

I'm following along on the tutorial for controlling a DC motor using the Arduino and an H-bridge. I'm looking at the schematic and I'm confused about what the arrows and double arrows mean when they point away from everything else. Do they connect to each other? Also, it says to connect H-bridge pin 8 to motor power supply via capacitor (if I'm reading correctly). How do I connect one wire to my battery? What about the other wire?

The arrows are the voltage supply. Single is 5v, double is 12v.
The single line is ground.

The capacitor should be as close to the H bridge as possible.
Basically connect it like this:

Battery + ----------------------+--- H bridge
Capacitor
Barrery - ----------------------+--- H bridge
