Newbie New Install on Mac - cannot compile

I am trying to get started with Arduino on a Macbook Pro, OSX Yosemite 10.10.5. When I try to compile even the simplest demo program like "blink" I get the following error message. It all works fine on my son's Windows-based PC laptop, just cannot get it to work on my Mac. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Try backing off to 1.6.5r5 for now and see if that works. Latest versions have some changes to the toolchain that have caused a lot of problems.

"Thanks for the recommendation. I loaded 1.6.5r5 and now it works, compiles properly and also communicates properly with the Arduino Uno.b
