NEWBIE: Trying to use a relay with Arduino to light LED

Alright, as the title says I'm a newbie. I have, however, been working hard to understand what I am doing but I was unable to resolve this issue.

I have an Arduino UNO and have setup a relay to light an LED. I have tried every connection that I can think of, but have had no success.

I made a video so that everyone can hopefully understand what I have setup.

Here is the link to the relay:

again...thanks for any help!

i see only one wire coming from the relay (switch side) to the LED. See the attached schematic. Relay common to 5V, relay normally open to the LED.

SOP is to post code and schematic.... not videos

Thanks "groundfungus" ! Your wording (not the diagram) helped me figure it out.

I had no clue how a relay worked but now have a much better understanding. I also ran into an issue with the circuit shorting but was able to figure out how to place a diode in between the series to resolve the short.

Again thanks so much for the help.

people like you really make open soruce a wonderful thing!

That's funny since I put in the diagram (schematic) because i couldn't figure out how to word it clearly.
