NewPing - not getting any readings from HC-SR04?

I have an Arduino Uno tied to a Seeed motor shield. I wanted to add an ultrasonic sensor to my project, so I picked up an OSEPP HC-SR04. Seeing that NewPing offered support for the sensor, I wrote the following code below to poll the sensor for distance:

I verify and upload the code to my Arduino but don't get any output. Instead getting lines the serial monitor like this:

Front Echo Distance: 
Front Echo Distance: 
Front Echo Distance: 
Front Echo Distance:

Any ideas as to what could be occurring? It happens irregardless of how far an obstacle is from the sensor.

Sorry that was a last-minute try-anything line. It normally displays fronSensorDist. Fixed, but still displaying the same output.

Pin 1 is one of the two Serial pins. You can't use Serial and use Pin 1 for digital I/O.
