Night vision Camara project looking for Sensor Ideas

Hi,

A few weeks back I purchased a night vision camara for a raspberry pi and it works great but i want to reduce the size

(Cam I have https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0176/3274/products/DSC_0792_8c8b4df3-279a-4ca0-aff1-cd4276f88836_1024x.jpg?v=1561294980)

I was thinking to get a new Raspberry pi W zero but then i thought i have a box of various Ardunio minis and other dev bords some with Wireless built in so I was thinking Could i do this on an ardunio.

For an example here is the subjct matter First Ant Video - YouTube (hope you like ants)

This is what it needs to have

  1. Night / IR, - Its pitch dark and light will be from a single low powered IR LED.
  2. Resolution - this will be set quite close up and for streaming so dont need 4K but see link above for current quility. the current camara specs are and this is plenty.

CCD size : 1/4inch
Aperture (F) : 1.8
Focal Length : 3.6mm adjustable
Field of View : 75.7 degree
Sensor best resolution : 1080p

  1. Frame rate of 30FPS idealy
  2. Wifi streaming - question here is can an ardunio handle streaming the video, its only local wifi from garden to house so bandwidth is not an issue (no need to transcode video on ardunio)
  3. would love to have remote focus and tracking but maybe for version 2.

So has any one done any thing like this or have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Aaron

I think you would struggle with 1 frame per second on a basic Arduino even at 640x480 resolution.

I was thinking if the camara is sending the images as RAW and the Ardunio is just acting as a wireless adaptor.

I see examples of people running OV7670 at >10fps, and like this I am expecting to see a camara running SoC so the processing is carried out on the camara module.

and running something like the ESP8266 board I know that can hit 6-8mbs for sendign wifi data which is enough for a half decent stream.

I was thinking maybe one of these "OV5640 Camera Board (C), 5 Megapixel (2592x1944), Auto Focusing, Onboard Flash", but i cant find much infor about there IR abilities.
