There is a surfeit of old Nikon film scanners out there with a SCSI interface. Original costs ran into thousands, but they are now available for about £20. Companies like Vuescan make the necessary software to enable their use on current computers, but interfacing them with modern computers seems impossible. Would there be any way of using an Arduino as an interface, or is there any way to replace the internal electronics with an Arduino?

You can pick up an Adaptec SCSI card for a PC on eBay. Either get one with the same SCSI connector or one where you can get a suitable SCSI adapter cable. The film scanner software should work as is.
