Nitrate probe

Hi all!

This is my first message in the forum. Thanks to all who are taking part in the forum, for its assistance to all who enter the world of Arduino.

I take some weeks working with Arduino, and it is fantastic. I am testing several types of sensors and probes, especially temperature and humidity, and starting to send data to the lcd, servers, memory cards ... etc.

Now I'd like to start with measurements of nitrate, nitrite and ammonium. I searched information, but I have not found any probe directly compatible with Arduino. Currently I am evaluating this probe Hach (http://goo.gl/z8c2BP), but I have not found documentation to suit Arduino.

My question is: is it possible to use probes like this in Arduino? What do I need? I have seen Atlas Scientific probes ... is necessary to develop circuits (such as Atlas Scientific EZO circuits) to use the probe Hach?

Many thanks and best regards.
Alex.

In the manual there is a drawing that describes the pinout of the connector and at the end of the document there is a description of the digitial interface. It's 2 wire modbus (most probably 12V signals) and you get the description of the modbus registers. With this you should be able to get some data from the probe.

Did you actually ask for the price? And if you got one could you please share it? I fear it will be high as the used technique sounds expansiv (UV light source, IV photodiodes, extinction spectroscopy most probably using some optical filters).

Best regards
Daniel

Thanks, Daniel, for your response.

The cost of the probe is about 10.000€, so expensive for me, I think

Best regards.

This is not a DIY project for a hobbyist.

It is not at all straightforward to distinguish these compounds from each other and from the many possible contaminants. That is why the probe you linked costs more than US $16,000 and it only measures nitrate!
