No port shown in Arduino IDE for my board

I too have this problem and just starting the trouble shooting. I have contacted the supplier, but trying to struggle on.

My lap top did not show an option to select a port, My PC lets me link a port but gives a sync error when trying to upload.

The faulty lead trouble shoot is a bust as WHO has a spare USB-A to USB-B cord lying around

Sorry, but your lack of a cable doesn't mean the debugging step is wrong, just not possible, which we don't know until we suggest it. As for "who has...", it's a small sample set, but I have half a dozen in sight, and more in a box in the lab, so don't assume everyone is in your "box".

You've started off on the wrong foot, but you can try again. What are your symptoms?

Thank you.

I apologise for my incorrect process and poor form. I was following the provided instruction for install of the kit , firstly on my laptop. The arduino rop down did not even have the option to select a port. I tried again on a PC, the only option that came up was COM1 so I chose that, but was unale to sync.l

Oh, BTW I am using IDE 2.0.3 and the board is marked as inventr.io hero. I understand from other parts of this forum that this board is a clone of the Arduino Uno, but that may be hearsay.

We don't know what those instructions are; please posta link.

Crosspost with https://forum.arduino.cc/t/pc-does-not-see-hero-board/1094582

I understand this is a clone of the Arduino Uno, spld with the Aventure kit by inventr.io.

I have followed the instructions as best as i can, but dont seem to be linking to the board. The COM 1 port exist pre install, but the hero board does not change the port listing.

Could this be a windows 11 thing?

Please help?

IDE >> PORT >> your port
(are you sure COM1? Not COM4 or COM5?)
IDE >> BOARDS >> your board

If that means that COM1 doers exist when your board is not connected, it means that COM1 is not the Arduino.

The chip circled in red looks like a CH340; you will have to install the driver. It can be downloaded from http://www.wch-ic.com/downloads/CH341SER_ZIP.html

//Edit
Ha, found the schematic : https://github.com/inventrkits/HERO/blob/master/SchematicView.png. Indeed a CH340

Apologies Sir, Steep learning curve

The instructions are as per this Arduino/HERO Windows Installation Guide - YouTube

OK it is an Arduino Chinese clone.

However if you search the forum for CH340 or CH341 you will find that this has come up a lot in the past.

Thanks. If you did the first step in that video (driver install) and got the same results, it should be working.

  1. What does Windows device manager tell you about your board when you connect it? Anything with yellow triangles (if that still exists in Win11)?
  2. The version of the driver in the youtube seems quite old; maybe uninstall and install the one from the link I provided earlier.

Hi all, particularly moderators.

I would like to sincerely and humbly apologise. It WAS the cable. You expect something out of the box to work, but no. Primo fault finding.

Think we have all been down that bad cable road in one way or another.
Glad you got it figured out and can now enjoy the wonderful world of Arduino.
