I got 5 Nokia 5110 lcd that are not working, except for the backlight. I found the problem, it`s a bad contact between the board and the lcd plate. If you have this problem, remove the metal clip held by the 4 small metal pins and clean the black conductive rubber and the contact of the board with rubbing alcool. Reinstall the clip correctly and retest the lcd screen. It solve all my defective screen!
