Noob - Help about a project, a simple reset switch for computer.

Hi all, I am new to Arduino, wonder is the correct place to make my post..

I would like to make a very simple switch/toggle for a desktop PC, with the reset switch from the case/panel wired to the Arduino board, I would like to "reset" the desktop computer like I push the reset switch on the case..

I am very noob to hardware, can you guys give me a hand? do I need a relay design? or?

Any direction/hint/info would be helpful, I am quite lost here....

Really thanks.

If you are going to run a wire from the PC to the Arduino, and back to the PC, so the Arduino can press the reset button for you, why not just save the money and effort of the Arduino and just use a remote switch?

Under what circumstances should the Arduino reset the PC?

Hi Paul, thanks for your reply

I understand the project looks strange, I know I can reboot the PC by software, but my case is a bit different.

The reason why I would like to "physically" reset the computer is the target computer are at remote location (server room), and the reason of physically reset is when the computer is down/busy, I cannot even telnet/SSH back to the server to do software reboot, and now we have to call operator to reboot it physically which their service is not very good...

My goal is to make a Arduino with Ethernet to allow me to "reset" the server sets at my wish without the trouble to go thru the support call which drive me crazy (like 15~30 mins waiting time or someone reset the wrong server, or even "kick off" the Ethernet cable by accident..)

Thanks.

I know I can reboot the PC by software,

Read the reply again, he wasn't saying that, he said just extend the wires on the reset switch to your remote location, and put a push switch on it. This is just the same as running wires to and arduino and having it push the button.
