I've downloaded loaded the software which seems to be ok
But windows does other recognise the board (UNO r3) it detects new hardware, but when l look in systems/hardware /device manager........ No arduino what am I doing wrong!
Are you running the Arduino sketch IDE with a portable version?
Or did you download the installer from arduino.cc ?
It is desirable to use the installer because it will place all the drivers for the correct computer architecture for you.
Your problem seems that Windows cannot find appropriate drivers for the peripheral that you plugged in (Uno r3).
Any lights flashing on the Arduino Uno?

I think I've managed to download the drivers, but not by the steps in the guide? It said it was successful, but reading the text doc it says signature windows 8, I'm running xp. How can I load the code from the uno so l can alter the timing, would this tell me that every thing is working correctly?
I think lve now got it working OK, successfully altered the code (delay times to 2000) it now blinks on /off at 2secs This was after following the trouble shooting guide upload, and changing the com port many thanks
