I am going to read more the datasheet and documentation because now I don't see the point of the pipes. I initially thought it was to assign transmitter address to the receiver.
Pipes are something like post boxes.
You can have six of them, the addresses have to match certain criteria.
When a valid packet start is detected, the addresses are checked and if one matches, a copy is made.
All of these boxes deliver to one three entry deep fifo.
Available returns true if the fifo is not empty and a supplied parameter gets set to the box it* came in from.
