Hi , I have 2 of the NRF24L01 + Pa + LNA modules connected to the arduino with the 3.3v adaptor board. I just wanted to know whether they would work without antenna (over small distances less than 100m) or is the antenna strictly necessary?
As a general rule you should not operate RF transmitters without antennas, they can be destroyed.

Maybe but the odds are also high you will blow the final RF stage in it. It is possible there may be some protection circuity in it to prevent that but I do not know about it. Also do not power it with your Arduino(s) as you will have more problems. Use a separate power supply.
