Not sure what the issue is, to be honest, if the built in fan blew air towards that chip it would probably be fine. But i noticed very high temps on my board just using that drive as extra storage.

Added 1 AC Infinity blower that is on a thermal trigger to 98 degf, circled in red is the Dallas temp sensor. Works great, that side of the board is now cool and never hot to the touch. The fan is set to low, and runs every 2 minutes or so for about 30 seconds. Makes less noise than the built in fan running slow.

Figured i would post this if anyone else is concerned about that side of their board running hot.

I assume 98 degf is fahrenheit, so 36.7 celsius...that's pretty normal for NVMe. Maybe put a heatsink on it if you are worried? I can't find 2230 heatsinks in normal shops, only Ali or Amazon...normal SSDs are routinely equipped with heatsinks, on my big PC motherboard there's integrated heatsink...

I also used SSD headsinks for my [Hailo 10H accelerators](https://youtu.be/yhDjQx-Dmu0?t=181) and they really work.

Maybe I can test cutting my 2280 heatsink into 2230 shape and testing temps with thremal camera? 😀

I just happen to have a 2280 nvme on my desk and it is rated 3.3V 2.8A

no wonder they get hot!

I would guess that a smaller common size, even if not ideal, would still be better than nothing.

For the benefit of readers of this thread, I'll add that @HKSpowered explained in another topic they found the cause of the unexpected SSD temperature:

> [@NVME drive is hot, unmounted but physically installed](https://forum.arduino.cc/t/nvme-drive-is-hot-unmounted-but-physically-installed/1465305/2):
>
> It turns out it was never being managed. It was a FAT32 drive that wasn't mounted, so the Linux NVMe driver never put it into low-power idle states (APST). It sat at full power with nothing to do. After formatting it ext4, mounting it, and actually using it, the kernel manages its power states and it idles much cooler. The fan is gone.

See that topic for more details about using an NVMe SSD with the VENTUNO Q:

> I installed a 256gb nvme and wanted to migrate everything except for Ubuntu from flash to nvme (much faster model loads fyi), I had claude walk me through simple ssh commands to get there, once configured my nvme is cool to the touch, it used to get so hot I actually had a blower and thermal trigger on it, that issue is now solved! If anyone else has a hot drive, yourfix is below, as well as this migrated bookmarks, app lab files, everything hut the base os from flash to the nvme...

I got heatsinks from Amazon coming, assorted sizes for pi stuff.... no doubt one kinda like a 2230 nvme. The kit was cheap

$12 USD
