object tracking using laser

Hi,
I want to detect the position ( x,y) of a object (7.5cm in size) when it crosses the plane of sensor at a speed of 10m/s .

i was thinking of using a 2d-laser sensor but do not know which sensor or how to use it. Please someone help me.

how large is the plane?

Maximum distance of object can be 4m and a filed of approx. 150 degree
