Office-Checkin with RFID

Hi there

I'm new here ... and I am looking for an awareness solution with RFID.

We have 3 Offices and it would be cool, if every Member would be tracked when he enteres one office and all statuses would be shown on a webinterface. So everyone could see at anytime who is in which office.

Would this be possible with arduino some RFID-Tags and 3 RFID-scanner?

By office, do you mean 3 different buildings or 3 different rooms?

If you don't mind holding the tag every time in front of an rfid sensor entering a room/office(?), there is a very simple solution.

Buy 3 Innovation ID-12 RFID Readers, 3 Arduino Unos, and 3 Ethernet Shields.

Assemble the three units and set up a simple webserver, where the Arduinos can send there read tags to.

You could use xampp: easy to install - Apache PHP and MySQL in one - you can even make a time registration system that way.

The question is: Do you want "remote sensing," or is it OK if each member has to physically put the tag against a sensor, like a door lock?

For remote sensing, you need the high-frequency sensors, which are expensive. For doorlock type sensing, any 125 kHz or 13 MHz sensor will probably do fine.

Then you have to send the data to some central location; Ethernet shield would work for that.

It would be cool if it would be tracked remotely - without putting a badge on a sensor just by entering a room (or leaving it).

When I say Office, there are two buildings in two cities,in one building one room and in the other building two separate rooms.

Rough cost is $315.

Most affordable RFID reads only have a rang of 6cm.

That does not remote sense tags in the room -- you have to put the tag right up to the reader to read it.

Expect to pay ten times as much for a range of 10-20 meters, and up to ten times as much again if you want position and remote discrimination (reading of many different remote tags that are close to each other.)

Ok, if you want it without physically presenting an rfid-tag to the reader, i have another idea:

Self-sending RF-Modules (1 minute intervalls for example) Disadvantages: - maybe expensive too - depending on how small parts you could find, it could be very unhandy Parts needed: battery, attiny, small rf modules, enclosure (every employee) 3x Arduino + Ethernet Shield + RF Receiver
