Hi all. I would really love some help or direction solving a static problem.
Problem: hissing/static from headphones connected to Shield, starting with upload of sketch and ending only when a non-audio sketch is loaded. I'm pretty it's the jack.
If headphone jack is not completely inserted, the static will stop and the file will play. If I push the headphones in all the way, the static resumes.
Can anyone direct me? Do I need to replace the unit?
I assume you mean the Sparkfun VS1053 audio shield? I always had problems with those and switched to DF Mini MP3 players. A short cure would maybe be an optoisolator. What voltage do you have running to the Arduino and VS1053?
I would try for a replacement. It appears to have a bad jack. You might want to check it for physical damage. I assume you have tested the headphones in another device after the problem was discovered. when testing wiggle the wires. It is possible you have a weak RF signal. Test with a signal generator if you can obtain one.
