Opening a Geocache

I've designed an Arduino based game that will open a Geocache box when the user completes a certain turn. I am about to take this project from the breadboard to real life and I am looking for some advise.

This will be a stand alone outdoor project. I have read many threads here on various power options and enclosures, but, I thought I would post this thread for recommendations on the following:

1.) Need a outdoor enclosure capable of holding a 10 inch round project.
2.) Looking for a recommendation for a way to "open" a box. I was thinking of using a solenoid but would like to stay low power. Maybe a servo?
3.) As with a lot of these threads - looking for the best way to power a stand alone project.

Any recommendations or thought would be appreciated.

Try googling for "reverse geocache". For example: - YouTube

  1. Use a servo - power up, move where you, power down.
  2. Go into powerdown sleep mode to save power. Have a pushbutton to create an interrupt to wake up & do something.

Battery - stick some D cells in there, will last a long time.
