operate buttons on module from outside of a casing

hi
I have trawled through the forum and have not found anything that relates to my question
if I make a casing with the Arduino inside ,say I want to press the rest button from a button on the casing how would I do it would I have to wire it from Arduino to button or is there a button with a long shaft that you position above the Arduino and when you press it it touches the reset button on Arduino, also I ha a 4 button lcd screen is there something you can cover the buttons with like a keypad screen to make it more pleasing to look at ect
any help would be good
cheers colin

This is probably a good use of 3D printing unless you have a machine shop.

If you look at this set of laser-cut case materials for an instrument, notice the six little (red) pieces on the bottom right. These fit in the corresponding slots in the top cover to push on buttons inside, the projections on the side prevent them coming out.

What you can do is to cut pieces of plastic rod to fit in holes in your cover, and either glue them to the buttons with (flexible) silicone, or drill them sideways to pin through them with pieces of wire to prevent them coming out, in the same way as the pieces in the illustration.

Hi
Thankyou for the information on 3d printing will look into it many thanks
