OV7670 to Arduino Due

Hi, I was wondering if someone can help with connecting an OV7670 to an Arduino Due. I have been following along with this Instructable:

On the Serial Monitor, I am getting "error write reg 18". I think reg 18 is 0x12, which has something to do with COM7 on the OV7670, but I'm not entirely sure. I can see data coming in through the serial monitor, but it's mostly backward question marks. I have tried two different OV7670 cameras with the same result. Is there anything else I can do/try? Is it possible something is wrong with the Due? Code and OV7670 datasheet attached.
