Oxygen, pulse and BP project advice needed

Hi, a couple of weeks ago I thought that a would have another go at Ardunio after a 5 year break. My old laptop had died so I downloaded 1.8 & 2.0 IDE's plugged in my Mega Pro Mini on my breadboard and got it all running ready to begin the project, read a whole bunch of posts about planning projects and the info that I need to know before asking on the forum. Last Friday I was in process of writing my list when a had a Heart Attack. My local NHS were fantastic, with drugs and keyhole surgery to fit a Stent they turned me around from a very unwell person to being fit enough to discharge Tuesday Evening.

When I arrived home I put the NHS bag full of drugs on the table and sat down to gather my thoughts, It really had been a crazy crazy 5 days. I had been planning my first ever project using small DC motors and a Wrover Cam E, but looking at the amount of drugs in the bag I decided to change projects.

I want to build a smart drug box

I have and know how connect and use
Mega pro mini
adafruit HX8357D Touch Screen with ssd slot
RTC

I need to buy plastic 7 day AM/PM Drug box and design switch's for each tray (14 pins)

I don't have and now little about... Advice would be appreciated
Heart Rate & Oxygen Concentration Sensor. maybe something like GY-MAX30100?

blood pressure sensor ? looking at some UNO hacks could be an add on by way of jack

I'm furthest from home on this project using strings to store daily data to the ssd card, Or if the use of strings is the way to go or not? I'm thinking that I should use strings because “Ramipril” can not be confused against using a number to label each drugs txt file?

The data I'd like to collect for each of the 10 daily drugs would look something like.

file name Ramipril 2.5 mg

Ramipril_stock_qnty = 27 (contents of tray and carton)

Ramipril_tray_qnty = 13

Ramipril_dose = 2.5

Ramipril_AM = TRUE

Ramipril_PM = FALSE

Ramipril_re_order_level = 7 (days before zero stock)

Ramipril starting date =

Ramipril ending date =

and then some sort of events log logging time and date of each tablet taken

Thoughts, ideas much appreciated, thanks phil.

p.s I might have chosen another user name if I new a heart attack was due :smiley:

Buy a commercial ready to use one! I've got one. If the reading one day indicates an alarm, don't rely on an unsafe breadboard hobby thing!
Then You can build this "life saving device".
Start designing the circuit making schematics. Get hold of the voltages needed, eventual current need in case of solenoids etc.

Once having an a serious issue with blood pressure I bought a commercial, ready to use, one. Do that and then start Your project in this respect.

I have no experience of the sensors You mention and I'm not willing to plough through their datasheets in this moment. It's too important things.

I know what you mean. I had a stroke on May 3rd and was discharged on May 5th. My left hand doesn't work anymore and I am having to retrain another part of my brain to drive it.
It is a long process but already starting to see improvements. And I am now permitted to drive again from last weekend.

I too had a big bag of new drugs. What I had to do is to read the instructions that came with them to see which had to be kept sealed in the individual plastic bubbles and what you could just add to your pill box. Don't forget that

I would like to reinforce the advice given by @Railroader and to buy the blood pressure monitor they are not expensive and much cheaper than trying to make yourself.

Mike, glad to hear that you're improving. I note that if I acquire a cut, scrape or graze (woodworking usually), it's quite fascinating to watch the damage getting repaired as the body does its thing. Hopefully, seeing hand function returning as you reprogram your brain will be equally intriguing.

Is there any part of the prescribed exercises that could be assisted/made more interesting using an Arduino?

Thanks Railroader

I can now see me Op is a little misleading using the term blood pressure sensor when I should have used a better term like blood pressure DEVICE a commercial bought one like you rightly say, but that can LATER be hacked down the Ic2 line is what I've been looking at, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zRlYQUBFiw

The only reason I would like to do this is that the commercial ones mostly have tiny data storage, I also have cronic back pain and diverticulitis which raise my blood pressure alot. You're 100% spot on though commercial all the way :slight_smile:

Sorry to hear that Mike, but glad to hear that you are regaining motor control, recovery can be a long road to travel, I started to go though my drugs when I read your post only to realize to my horror that I have one pill to many in the 9 boxes, all the extra pills are from my AM doses! yet I'm convinced I took them every day. clearly needs extra effort on my part. I really clearly need reminding i'm thinking I should start with building 'A Nagging Wife' with the bits I have at hand and have used in the past.

Mega Pro Mini + Emic speech + RTC + TFT = Nagging Wife :smiley:

Thanks for the input guys

Well just getting on with making stuff I think is therapy in it's self. I am currently doing a project that involves a lot of laser cutting and not only was it a challenge getting to drive a mouse, clicking was a problem at first. Then there is the problem of all the nuts and bolts you have to use to put it together and finally soldering up the design. At the best of times you need at least three hands to solder, so trying it with one and a half was the biggest challenge. The right hand is likely to drop things.

Another strange effect is that if I put both hands onto a solid board and try to flex it, then it feels like the board is bending at the right side. I can see it is not but that is the feedback my brain is getting at the moment.
