Parallax Propeller alternative?

Hi,
I am a rookie in the world of black blobs with legs
and I recently found out about the Parallax Propeller, and I was amazed at how powerful it is.
However, I also found out it is dying out, and the prices for a single DIP-40 chip is a whopping 8 dollars!
So, I came here to ask, is there a good alternative for the Parallax Propeller chip?
I am digging through the Pic32MX series and found out that the PIC32MX250f128b is very close, but I want one from Atmel because I love AVRs. So is there an AVR chip comparable to the Parallax Propeller in terms of specs like clock speed, RAM, ROM, etc? A DIP package would also be great.

No.
Closest is probably the XMOS xCore, but you're probably better off with something like a raspberry pi.
