So in my sensors kit, I got a 'passive buzzer'. is that a knock sensor? If not, what is the big difference from a regular buzzer? google just tells me it is a passive buzzer used in electronics. not sure what that means if it just buzzes or otherwise.
Also, while you are reading this, is there a code already out there, or perhaps a place to fine code for my shock sensor? I would like to just hook it up and see if it works. thank you.

I don't like the term 'passive buzzer' it is a new one on me and totally inaccurate. A passive component is like a resistor, capacitor or inductor where as what you have is a piezoelectric transducer which in my book is an active component because I actually generates a voltage.

An "active" buzzer makes a noise if you just apply power. A "passive" does not.
Chagrin, thank you for the reply, I read the website but I am still unsure about what that means? You say active buzzer is when power is applied. But the passive does not? How is that possible?
The so called passive buzzer is like a loudspeaker unless you supply a signal to it then no sound will be produced. Where the active buzzer is a resonator which includes it's own oscillator.
Just because someone on a web site misuses the term passive does not make it OK.
