> Inverting magnetic pinch clamp It is quite often that we need to work on one side of a PCB then on the other side. If a 2nd magnet is added to the top of a pinch clamp (discussed much earlier) it takes only a second to invert the clamped PCB and start working on that side. If you find the top magnet is catching on to things, add a removable keeper to shield the magnetic field.

> 123 Bolcks A $29.00 pair of 123 blocks is adequate for a metal, woodworking or electronics shop. Can also be helpful when soldering PCB structures at 90° to each other.

The new design creates a ‘Pinch Vise’. A 2mm hole is drilled near the outer edge of one of the fender washers. Install a 2mm X 4mm screw with nut in the hole, tighten. ‘Do not’ use the small washer that was previously between the two large washers. Assemble the new 'Pinch Vise' as per the images, the two washers …

> More Pinch Clamps See also: You can use magnetic pinch clamps to hold a powered-up PCB. To prevent traces shorting, the clamp’s compression washers need to be insulated from the PCB surface. In the past I placed paper over the PCB edge to insulate the washers. Paper was a bit of a headache, so I added 0.78 mm (.031”) FR4 glass epoxy washers to the clamp. A CNC machine was used to make the PCB washers; however, a bench sander will work too. Use epoxy glue between the PCB washer and the fen…

> DIY Circuit Board Holder See post 935 also. If you have been following this thread, you will know several magnetic tools have been discussed. Existing magnet tools can be easily turned into a new tool set as shown in the images below. The two magnetic High Boy stands can be fitted with locking binder clips to form a circuit board holder. Commercial version costs about $130.00 USD. The DIY version costs about $2.00 Not shown in the images below would be a component arm with foam pad; this …

> For more leverage when tightening the ‘Pinch Vise’, add a 10mm standoff to the offset screw. Moving the 'screw washer' to the top position helps identify the 'pinch point' 180 degrees away. Or just use a 10mm long screw wink

> Referring back to Post #250 and subsequent Post #758. The below addition for the 'Pinch Vise' makes it much more user friendly. Here we are adding a rubber spacer to keep the jaws open while not compressed. 3/18" O.D. 'Surgical Rubber Tubing' is cut to a height of 1/8" (spacer). The 1/8" rubber spacer is placed over the 6-32 set screw, i.e. between the two washers, see images below. When the finger nut (top nylon standoff) is loosened, the 1/8" rubber spacer opens our vise. This pinch vise…

I've had one of [these](https://www.panavise.com/index.html?pageID=1&page=full&--eqskudatarq=558) for years. Myriad uses besides holding circuit boards and won't wear out.

'Course I didn't pay what they want nowadays.

I've been using one of [these](https://www.amazon.co.uk/BURNTEC-PCB-Holder-Jig-Soldering/dp/B01MRAEY6M?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE) for a few years. They are very good value for money.
