Peak expected current for DC motors

Part of my 4th year engineering project will involve building a prototype, and I'm looking to use Arduino to control up to 4 motors. I have 2 SN754410NE H-bridges that control the 4 motors, but each one is able to provide only 1A current. I haven't yet decided on the motors themselves, but I think 12V hobby motors will do the trick. Is 1A sufficient for driving the average 12V hobby motor?

Is 1A sufficient for driving the average 12V hobby motor?

The problem is that there is no "average 12v hobby motor", one needs the specific datasheet specs to know for sure. Or possible wire up the motor to a 12vdc voltage source, and measure the current when unloaded and with a 'locked rotor', those are your minimum and maximum current draws for your specific motor.
