You also have the MIDI SHIELD @ Sparkfun SparkFun MIDI Shield - DEV-12898 - SparkFun Electronics that would maybe save u some initial hassle with the electronics side, for your initial experiments with the code side. Then, later when you more comfortable with it, get your hands to it !!
