People with the highest posts and karma

Hi, there

Hey I just wanted to know who has the highest posts and karma.

Also I wanted to suggest a leaderboard system. In which people with the highest posts will and karma will be displayed.

I wanted to suggest a leaderboard system. In which people with the highest posts will and karma will be displayed.

What would be the purpose of such a system ?

Karma is NOT the best indicator of a persons ability but only a rough guide.
It can also be easily hacked on the present system.

Post counts are also not the best indicator but again a rough guide.
It is possible to a user to boost post counts with incomplete answers and off topic remarks.

Also some posters tend to stick to specific areas so thier post and karma count may be smaller yet they provide first rate help.

Take a look at any site that uses "gamification" and they often have leader boards filled with people just posting to get the next badge etc.

Good idea but impractical in a more serious forum without posters being vetted which would go down like a lead baloon.

There is already a member list that gives that information [deleted]

With the recent departure of one of our more contentious members, Robin2 now shows as having the most posts. The sort by Karma is flawed as it shows nulls first, but if you had the patience you could page through it to find out who the most karmic member is

I have a suspicion that the member list is a problem. I had a page open to the list and another to the site. The member list takes some seconds to refresh as you try to move through the epic number of members with null karma.

Indeed, it took so long, I flipped back to the page I had open to the main site to find something to read. Except that I couldn't - I chose a thread but it took forever to come back by which time the membership page had rendered.

It feels like either the member list query is very expensive and is killing the server or worse, it locks something that stops every other forum request.

I'd do some more testing, but if my suspicions are correct, I doubt anyone else trying to use the site would appreciate it.
