Photo-resist copper clad Ok for etching instead?

Hi

Bought some copper clad board and when I received it I noticed it was labelled "photo resist". I didn't intend to order this, not sure if it wasn't clearly labelled on website or if I was just being dozy!

I don't use photo-resist method I use laser toner transfer to Press-n-Peel, domestic iron (might go laminator instead) and then etch in sodium persulphate. Can I use this photo-resist board anyway with the above methods?

Thanks
Jim

You would probably have to remove the photo-resist layer, first.

I used fine (400 or 600 grit) sandpaper to get down top bare copper (which I usually do anyway), then used toner transfer as usual.

I would take the photo resist off with acetone, it leaves a much better finish than sanding it off.

Hmm ... I've never used photo-resist before. Perhaps it's mislabelled on the packaging. It just looks like a copper-clad board. There's not an additional layer that's visible ... ?

Depends on the type of resist, some have a green cast others are totally transparent. The UV will soften the resist allowing the un exposed areas to be cleared, others work the other way round. They are known as positive and negative resist.
If you try and etch the board without cleaning it off you will find it will not etch.

Thanks Mike. I'll go at it with the acetone. Out damn spot!

Oh my god! This forum turns d_ a_ m_ n into darn! How naff is that!
