I'm not a tech but a recycler. I want to sort plastic 3/8" size pieces - ground milk jugs. I need to separate the natural/white pieces from the colored caps and pieces that have a label on them. Ones idea is to have a light on the back side and parts are rejected when light is shadowed or blocked.

can someone help with this? I can do the mechanical parts of the system.

I don't have any suggestions for your project but it might help to change the title to "How to sort coloured plastic pieces?"

If you modify your original post you can edit the title.

Best results with sorting by color requires a camera and a powerful processor (no basic Arduino). Any other solution will be too restricted. You also should consider how to separate and focus the pieces (turn front into view, not side nor back), so that they can be identified and sorted out individually - a big project by its own.

Perhaps not 'the best' way, but I have seen videos of skittle sorting using an Arduino and an RGB color detector. - Scotty
