Photo switch / transistor - any suggestions?

Then look up comparator circuits, that'll take care of the on/off.
If you want it to go on and stay on till it's reset then you'll have to add a latching circuit (RS latch).

Okay, I'll take a look for those. Thanks. Are any of the latching circuits triggered by light? Any suggestions on how I could include that functionality?
