MicroChip has a new Pickit, the Pickit 4. This debugger Programmer also supports the ATtiny and Atmega processors with a SPI, TPI or UPDI programming interface !!!
One programmer, suitable for almost every Arduino, including clones and upcoming kits with the new range of Amtel Processors (with the UPDI single-pin Program/Debug)
It would be great if this new programmer can be added to the Arduino environment.
In the AMTEL Studio is is already inplemented as a programmer/debugger.
It would be simple to do this via a 3rd party hardware package if it was supported by AVRDUDE. Unfortunately I'm not finding any indication that this is the case. Instead, a proprietary program supplied by Microchip is required.
