Hi, I recently got active piezo buzzers 3-30V operation. My hearing is substandard but I need to drive these buzzers with 16V, at which point I can tell that they are sounding, barely auditable.
my hearing falls off at about 8khz but does their opperation seem ok? I took one of them apart to see 3 caps, a transistor, and a piezo disc. I think only a voltage is required to produce sound; doing so, up to 30V, I barely can hear them. They are worthless as employed above. Is there something else I need to do or are they junk?
Thanks,
Keith
If you give a link to them, then we can have a look at them and then we can say: "they are junk".
Sometimes a piezo disc of a few centimeters (more than one inch) is used to make loud sound. The housing around the piezo disc has a big influence.
You have to look for something serious, something that can push air.
Hello klong84
Post a picture and data sheet.
Hi, they were an ebay purchase don’t have that link today, here’s what they look like. I get same results, barely audible at 16VDC
Get your active piezo buzzer from a known distributor of electronics components. Then you can pick the sound level you want. I know they are available that will hurt your ears, even with bad hearing like mine.
I had one left from a customers product that was inside a housing on an active device with at least two motors. Could hear the buzzer from across the 6,000 ft plant.
